The future of one of Tasmania’s most iconic regions is currently being shaped through The Bay of Fires Masterplan, and now is the time for our tourism community to get involved.
The Masterplan aims to create a clear roadmap for managing growth in the Bay of Fires, balancing increasing visitor demand with the protection of the area’s natural, cultural and community values. It will also help guide future investment in infrastructure and visitor experiences.
With tourism continuing to grow in the region, this is an important opportunity to ensure the East Coast industry has a voice in how the destination evolves.

A draft Masterplan is now on public exhibition until 29 May 2026, and feedback is strongly encouraged from operators, residents and visitors.
Link Airways is expanding its Tasmania services, bringing more visitors into the state this winter, including new direct flights between Canberra and Launceston.
To support this, Link Airways is producing a “Winter in Tasmania” feature in its June/July inflight magazine, highlighting seasonal experiences across the state, including the East Coast. With no in-flight entertainment or Wi-Fi, the magazine is a key touchpoint for travellers, and is also available as an online e-magazine to support trip planning.
This is a great opportunity to showcase East Coast winter experiences, from nature and wildlife to food, wine and cosy stays.

The Tasmanian tourism industry acknowledges the Tasmanian Aboriginal people and their enduring custodianship of lutruwita / Tasmania. We honour 40,000 years of uninterrupted care, protection and belonging to these islands, before the invasion and colonisation of European settlement. As a tourism industry that welcomes visitors to these lands, we acknowledge our responsibility to represent to our visitors Tasmania’s deep and complex history, fully, respectfully and truthfully. We acknowledge the Aboriginal people who continue to care for this country today. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present. We honour their stories, songs, art, and culture, and their aspirations for the future of their people and these lands. We respectfully ask that tourism be a part of that future.
